Windows 8.1 Update 1
Windows 8.1 users will get a mandatory update, labeled as Update 1 and Spring update.
Update 1 or the Spring update, is a required update to receive future security patches from Microsoft.
Windows 8 has started off on the wrong foot and many people do avoid Windows 8 as if it was the plague. Some people however are more accepting. Microsoft has really listened to the complaints of Windows 8, and then released Windows 8.1, as a free update to Windows 8 users. Windows 8.1 was supposed to make the Windows 8 experience better. Some of the refined options were starting up the computer straight the desktop, instead of the new Start menu, also known as Metro, tweaked Metro menu functionality, more customizability, and so on.
So what does Update 1 bring Windows 8.1 users?
Metro apps, such as Mail, Calendar, Maps ran in a full screen mode, pre-update 1. Update 1 is about small changes to the Windows 8.1 environment, to make it function as Windows 7 does. No longer will Metro apps be full screen, without the Windows taskbar.
Update 2, coming later this year will feature something which people have been wanting ever since the Windows 8 launch.
The Start menu. See the picture below.
